The Power of the Holy Spirit

Author: Larry Johnson

On Thursday mornings at 8, myself and a small group of men gather together to study God’s Word together. It's a special time, and we all look forward to being together even though it's over Zoom. Relationships have formed and grown. It is all of our goals to study the Word and come together and share what the Lord has revealed. We all agree with the author of the Book of Hebrews who says in Chapter 4 that His Word is sharper than any two-edged sword and what the Bible says in Isaiah Chapter 55 10-11 regarding the Word accomplishing the purpose for which it was sent.

The study this week is Acts Chapter 7. Each week a different one of us facilitates the study, and I so look forward to our time together. The study has been rich. One cannot read the book of Acts and not ask the question “Why did so many people give their lives to Christ?” The first thing we noticed is that the Holy Spirit was at work. The second thing was that the Holy Spirit moved men to boldness proclaiming the Good News about Jesus. The third thing was that the Holy Spirit convicted people of their sinful nature and their need of a Savior. The result was that hundreds of people gave their lives to Christ and started living radically different. Wow. That’s amazing. AND then, by the lifestyle of these new Christians, many more thousands gave their lives to Christ. Again, WOW!! Just thinking about this again for the hundredth time, I’m convicted to ask my Heavenly Father for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will give me the courage and boldness to proclaim Jesus and to live a life that demands an answer.

And let’s not forget these men prayed fervently and then prayed some more. Prayer was an important part of their lives, so important that they asked for help with other tasks in order that they might pray more. We’ve discovered all of this, and we’re only in Chapter 7!!

In Christ,
L
